This lyrical ballad begins with smooth, slightly syncopated arpeggios from the grand piano, joined by a double bass halfway through the intro. This duo provides the entire instrumental support for the song. Harmonically the verses and choruses repeat a four-chord progression. The musical phrases have odd and different metered measures almost giving the effect of a free form. The bridge modulates abruptly to another key setting up a well-crafted final verse and chorus in the original key.
